Mark Mylo Moylan BIO
(23rd January 1984) (Irish: Marc O Maoláin) is an Irish folk singer and entertainer.
Mylo dedicated his life to music at an early age and has been energetically involved in the Irish music scene since 2004.
A Clever, versatile guitarist, Singer/Songwriter from Kildare Town, Co. Kildare, his enthusiasm for learning the many different components of his craft, from playing live, songwriting, to music theory and even recording and production has allowed him to become experienced professional.
He started playing guitar during his school days, music for him was a huge distraction from the mundane chores of everyday life. It sculpted many lasting friendships which he still enjoys to this day, most remarkably with a group of 4 musicians and singers who went by the name The Lowrys. Mylo says "myself and Patrick Mac Carthy, who is a very talented singer and musician would frequent one of the local pubs in the kildare town every Tuesday night to sit and listen to the Lowrys play. We very quickly befriended the men and regularly joined in with them singing to their enjoyment. I suppose it was novelty. This involvement encouraged us both to take up an instrument, my first choice being a tenor banjo. Unsuccessful but undeterred by this failing I took up the guitar and haven't looked back since. I still meet the Lowrys occasionally who are still entertaining nearly 15 years later. Not often enough".
A recent review of Mylo hailed him for "his fresh views on Irish traditional music as well as his creative spins on modern chart hits"
How old you were when you started playing?
Music was ever present in our household when I was growing up, my grandmother and mother enjoyed listening to music and encouraged me in this fashion. However it was my brother-in-law Jack Carey who inspired me to showcase my passion. It was his renditions of The Knock Song and Joxer goes to Stuttgart, (Christy Moore) which have been etched into the deepest walls of my memory. The entertainment these songs offered was second to none and I became obsessed with learning the lyrics. Before I knew it I had stored a catalogue list of songs in my memory bank and could and would sing them for school mates and family, whether they wanted to hear them or not.
Who Inspired you?
Over the years Mylo has been inspired by some legendary artists such as
Christy Moore, Luke Kelly, Liam Clancy, the Saw Doctors, The Pogues, Don McClean, Elvis, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and the list keeps goin.
He feels it's time for another folk revival like the 1960's "I think it's already started and I want to be a part of it.
